Why do I keep getting UTIs?

Some people are just more prone to UTIs — like Uqora’s founder. After getting 8 UTIs in one year she was inspired to launch Uqora. Learn more about Uqora here.

What are Uqora’s proactive supplements?

We worked with doctors and scientists to develop proactive urinary tract supplements to help people stay healthy. We want to help you, next! Take our quiz to see which products will help you stay proactive.

What should I do if I have a UTI right now?

If you think you have a UTI, you should see a doctor ASAP, for a urine culture and likely, an antibiotic prescription. Our UTI Emergency Kit is great to keep on hand until you can get to a doctor. The UTI test strips can confirm if you have a UTI and the other products in the kit will relieve pain and control the infection.

Hopefully we’ll see innovations in UTI treatment in the near future, but at the moment, antibiotics are the only known effective treatment for UTIs. Due to rising concerns around antibiotic resistance it’s important you require your doctor to take a urine culture to determine the exact bacteria causing the infection. Otherwise you risk taking the wrong antibiotic.

How can I get proactive about my urinary tract health?

We want to help you maintain a healthy urinary tract, so you can get back to living.

You can learn more about Uqora on our homepage, and take our quiz while you're there.

We encourage you to read our unfiltered reviews (we swear, we stay out of it!).

If you'd like, we invite you to join our private community on Facebook, where you can ask 14,000 real Uqora users about their experience.

Clarify: Test Strips

WHAT IT IS? Clarify is a pack of 3 individually wrapped test strips. Uqora Clarify includes the same test that doctors use to see if you might have a UTI.

Clarify is a good option for you if you suspect you have a UTI and you want to see your test results in just two minutes.

HOW DOES IT WORK? The tests work by detecting whether Nitrite and Leukocytes are present in your urine. Nitrites are a form of nitrogen that will often present itself if bacteria like E. coli are present in the urine. Leukocytes are white blood cells, which tend to show up when there’s inflammation or an infection in the urinary tract. The test evaluates if leukocyte esterase, an enzyme produced by white blood cells, is present in the urine. Generally, if both nitrites and leukocytes are detected in your urine, it’s likely that you have a UTI.

NOTE: Clarify will only detect certain types of bacteria, but not all. However, it will detect E. coli which is responsible for about 90% of all non-hospital associated UTIs.

DIRECTIONS: Wet one test strip by holding it in your urine stream for 1-2 seconds. Then, wait 2 minute to read results. Match the color of the test strip pads to the color blocks on the foil pouch to read results. In just 2 minutes, you can read the key to know if you have a UTI so you can seek treatment.

MORE FAQs

Can I use Clarify while taking Uqora's other products

We do not recommend using Clarify while taking Soothe or Uqora Target. Soothe contains phenazopyridine hydrochloride, an orange organic dye. This dye enters the urine to take effect and relieve UTI pain. However, it also turns the urine bright orange! Since Clarify’s test strips use color to indicate if you might have a UTI, the orange urine will make them more difficult to interpret. If you’ve purchased both together, we suggest using Clarify before taking Soothe.

Uqora Target contains Vitamin C. High intake of Vitamin C may impact the results of Clarify’s UTI test strips by impacting the perceived color. This could lead to a false negative nitrite result. For these reasons, while safe, we do not recommend taking Soothe or Uqora Target before using Clarify.

What does a positive test result mean?

When used properly, Clarify can detect that you may have a UTI. Clarify tests for both leukocytes (white blood cells) and nitrites. These tests performed together are more effective for detecting a UTI than testing for nitrite alone.

What should I tell my doctor if I get a positive result?

You should tell your doctor that your Uqora Clarify UTI test strip results are positive for nitrites and/or white blood cells (leukocytes).

Will common foods, alcohol, or medications affect my test results?

Most substances will not interfere with the test. However, some medications, like Soothe, can affect the color of your urine, making it difficult to properly match the colors. For example, if you take more than 500 mg of Vitamin C in 24 hours, you may obtain a false negative nitrite result. The drug tetracycline may also cause a false negative leukocyte result. If you are having difficulty reading the test strip or getting a negative result while experiencing UTI symptoms, contact your healthcare professional immediately.

Combat: Infection Control

WHAT IS IT? Combat includes 24 tablets that help control a UTI by helping to inhibit the progression of infection.

Combat is a good option for you if you want antibacterial protection and want to control a UTI.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Uqora Combat includes two active ingredients — sodium salicylate and methenamine, a powerful duo. Methenamine is an antibacterial medicine that slows the growth of bacteria along the urinary tract, helping you to control the UTI. Sodium salicylate is a pain reliever, to help relieve general pain and discomfort while methenamine does its thing. Note that while Combat inhibits the progression of an infection, it should not replace medical care and is just intended to slow the infection progression until you’re able to see your healthcare provider.

Combat works by generating formaldehyde in the urine. The formaldehyde is toxic to the bacteria and slows their growth.

Note that this process just helps inhibit the progression of an infection until you see a health care professional and should not replace medical care.

DIRECTIONS: For adults and children 12 years and over: Take 2 tablets with a full glass of water 3 times a day. Drink plenty of fluids.

For children under 12 years: Ask a doctor.

Do not use for more than a 3 day period unless directed by a doctor.

Will Combat stain my skin?

Nope!

Will Combat interfere with prescription medications?

Please consult your doctor if you are taking any other prescription medications before taking Combat. Combat should not be taken with sulfonamide drugs. Products that decrease the acidity of the urine (such as antacids, sodium bicarbonate, potassium or sodium citrate, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as acetazolamide) may reduce the effectiveness of Combat. Since Uqora Target makes the urine less acidic, taking Uqora Target alongside Combat may reduce the effectiveness of Combat. Combat should not be taken with anticoagulants, steroid drugs, or in addition to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and others).

What is the difference between Soothe and Combat?

Soothe relieves UTI pain and burning while Combat helps control the infection until you can see a doctor. Soothe and Combat are complementary and can be taken together.

Can I take Combat with Uqora's other products?

Combat can be safely taken alongside any of Uqora’s other products. However, products that decrease the acidity of the urine (such as antacids, sodium bicarbonate, potassium or sodium citrate, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors such as acetazolamide) may reduce the effectiveness of Combat. Since Uqora Target makes the urine less acidic, taking Uqora Target alongside Combat may reduce the effectiveness of Combat. While it is safe to do so, we recommend not taking Target and Combat together for this reason.

What are the drug facts?

Soothe: Symptom Relief

WHAT IT IT? Uqora’s Soothe includes 24 tablets that provide fast relief of UTI symptoms like pain, discomfort, urgency, and burning.

Soothe is a good option for you if you have a UTI and need fast relief for urinary pain or discomfort.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Soothe’s active ingredient, Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride, works by lining the mucosa of the urinary tract with a topical analgesic, which provides UTI pain relief. Heads up, the active ingredient in Soothe can turn your urine a bright orange color—that’s a normal part of how this ingredient works, so don’t be alarmed.

DIRECTIONS: Adults and children 12 years and older: Take 2 tablets 3 times daily with or after meals as needed for up to two days. Take with a full glass of water. Do not use for more than 2 days (12 tablets) without consulting a doctor.

Children under 12: Do not use without consulting a doctor.

Will Soothe stain my skin

The active ingredient in Soothe’s tablet can stain skin and clothing. When using, handle with care. The tablets should be taken whole, and should not be cut, chewed, crushed, or dissolved.
